Obituary

William D. "Bill" Whitworth, lovingly known as Billy or Bill, was born on December 30, 1945, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to Roger and Dora Whitworth. Bill was the oldest of five children.

Bill's Family moved to Georgia when he was just a year old, and he grew up in Carrollton, Georgia, where he developed a love for sports, especially football. He was an outstanding athlete, earning All-State honors in football in both 1962 and 1963. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1964.

In 1964, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps. He completed his recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, and subsequently served at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Bill remained in the reserves until 1970.

Bill was a successful businessman with a sharp mind, a natural instinct for business, and an entrepreneurial spirit. During his career, he sold mainframe computers to China, established his own computer school, and later ventured into a small-engine parts business. Throughout his career, Bill demonstrated an ability to recognize new opportunities and turn his ideas into successful ventures.

Bill met his wife, Alison, in Georgia in the late 1990s, and the two were married in the Abacos in 2001. That same year, they embarked on a new adventure together, opening a Kilwins chocolate and ice cream store in Delray Beach, Florida. Along with Bill's longtime best friend and business partner, Reggie, they owned and operated the store for 20 years. Those years in Delray Beach were filled with wonderful friendships, good times, and a life they dearly loved. In 2021, they sold the business and moved to Beaufort, South Carolina, where Bill could finally start a well-earned retirement.

Bill had a love for travel and adventure that took him all over the world. He especially enjoyed golf trips with friends, boating, and exploring new places. Whether traveling to faraway destinations or spending time on the water, Bill embraced life and all the experiences it brought. Some of his happiest times were spent traveling, playing golf, and making memories with good friends.

Bill had a natural ability to connect with people and truly never met a stranger. Bill was loved by so many whose lives he touched, and he had a special way of making people feel welcome. He loved a good party, whether he was hosting or attending, and was always ready to enjoy the company of friends, share a laugh, and make memories. Bill also loved a little competition and was more than happy to place a bet on just about anything! His outgoing personality, humor, and love of life made him someone people were drawn to and will long remember.

Bill will be remembered for his intelligence, entrepreneurial spirit, adventurous nature, wonderful sense of humor, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. Above all, he will be remembered as someone who knew how to enjoy life, bring people together, and make every gathering a little more fun. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and friendships that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Alison; his daughter, Tonya; his grandson, Tristan; his four siblings, Shirley, Keith and his wife, Lynn, Jeanie, and Bonnie; and many nieces and nephews.
