Marianne Wood Beaty Schein left this world in the early hours of Friday, September 25, 2026. She was the daughter of James Stewart Beaty Jr. and Marianne Wood Beaty.

Born on March 21, 1943, in Burlington, North Carolina, Marianne and her family returned to her father’s hometown of Rock Hill, South Carolina, before she was four years old. She attended the Winthrop Training School—which was later incorporated into Winthrop College's (now Winthrop University) Education Department—and graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1961. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Winthrop College in 1965.

Following graduation, Marianne moved to Beaufort, South Carolina, alongside her two best friends, Irene Jenkins Hoogenboom and Patsy McAliley Hatcher. Shortly after arriving, the trio secured teaching positions and met their future spouses.

Marianne met the love of her life, Stephen Lawrence Schein, and they were married on February 3, 1968. Two years later, they welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth Anne, followed by their son, Stephen Lawrence Jr., in 1975.

A dedicated educator, Marianne taught elementary school in Beaufort County for 28 years. She loved working with children, initially teaching third grade before transitioning to an art teacher.

Before her children were born and after they left home, Marianne and Stephen traveled extensively. She held a special love for Paris, enjoyed getting lost in the aisles of Harrod's in London, and considered the Caribbean to be a true paradise.

Marianne possessed a deep, abiding love for her family. Gentle, considerate, patient, and kind, she had a dry wit and loved her husband’s stories and jokes. She was a talented artist who enjoyed the fine arts, crossword puzzles, reading, British period pieces, babies, cats, and a diverse range of music, including classical, folk, and rock 'n' roll.

Marianne is predeceased by her niece, Anna Beaty Dunlap. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Stephen Schein Sr.; her daughter, Elizabeth Schein-Pearson (Vince); her son, Stephen Schein Jr. (Rayna); her grandsons, David, William, and Lawrence; her brother, James Beaty III; her sister, Nancy Beaty Moore; and her nieces, Virginia Beaty Medley, Marianne Price LaPorte, and Brook Moore Payne.

Marianne will be deeply missed. A graveside funeral will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, October 2nd, at Beth Israel Cemetery, located at 906 Bladen Street in Beaufort, South Carolina. Following the service, a visitation will be held at Helena Square, located at 1624 Paris Avenue in Port Royal.
