Obituary

Eunice Janet Munroe (Foster), age 88, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born on September 10, 1937, in Wallace, North Carolina, Eunice was one of seven children born to the late Ruth Foster (Smith) and Roy Foster. Raised on her family’s farm, she developed a lifelong appreciation for the value of a hard day’s work. The lessons she learned and the resilience she developed during those early years became the backbone of the woman she was throughout her life.

For many years, Eunice brought that same fierce work ethic and determination to her career as a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken, where she eventually retired after many years of dedicated service.

An avid dog lover, Eunice shared a deep passion for animals with her beloved husband, Paul. Together, they filled their home with the love and companionship of their many dogs over the years. Eunice could spend hours happily recounting stories about them, always bright-eyed as she shared memories of the joy, laughter, and companionship they brought into her life.

As the years passed, Eunice cherished the opportunity to share her memories with the next generation. She spent countless hours telling her family stories of her childhood, painting vivid pictures of what life was like growing up on the farm. Through those stories, she helped preserve her family’s history and ensured that the memories and lessons of those who came before would not be forgotten.

Eunice leaves behind her loving husband of over 50 years, Paul Munroe of Beaufort, South Carolina; her sisters, Pauline Nobel and Effie Ruth Maready; as well as her brother, Robert “Buddy” Foster; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Among them are Michaela and Todd Duhamel, North Carolina; Anne Marie and Tom Mockus of Maine; and Marsha Diane Long of North Carolina, all of whom were blessed to spend precious time with Eunice, listening to her memories and the stories of her childhood.

Eunice was preceded in death by her beloved son, Bruce Foster; her parents, Ruth and Roy Foster; her brother, James Foster; and her sisters, Lida Ellen Baggett and Bell Smith. A service celebrating Eunice’s life will be held at Grace Hill Baptist Church in Beaufort, South Carolina, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Eunice’s memory to a local animal shelter or animal rescue organization of your choice—a fitting tribute to someone whose life was made richer by the animals she loved so dearly.
